Even better than being able to find your vehicle, is not getting it stolen in the first place.
Here are some tips to help prevent you needing to use your Sentinel™ system.
- Don't leave your car unattended with the keys in, even for a few seconds. Thieves target places where cars are left for a minute or two, such as garage forecourts and parades of shops.
- Don't leave car keys just inside the door at your house as thieves will use a 'fishing rod' to hook keys through a letter box. Cars are often stolen as part of a burglary - the burglar sees the car keys and takes advantage of the new escape vehicle.
- Keep car doors locked when driving in high risk areas to avoid being the victim of a carjacking. Fortunately, these are extremely rare in the UK.
The thefts listed above negate the value of an alarm or immobilisor, as the car is stolen using the keys.
- Use any theft prevention measures that you have - every time you leave the vehicle.
- Have windows etched with your registration number or VIN.
- Try and avoid leaving your car in areas that offer a thief time without being disturbed.
- Use your garage, if you have one, especially if you will be away.
Also:
- Avoid leaving valuables in visible locations.
- Remove sat-nav windscreens mounts when leaving the car otherwise thieves will assume the main unit is in the glove box.
